I like to focus on listening and getting to know what someone wants and building their plan off of that instead of walking into the room saying, 'this is what you should do with your life.'

Delivering advice, collaborating as a team, and being a friend

Success is different for everyone, and clients are looking for more than just investment returns. Six LPL financial advisors share how they take care of their clients to help them succeed and free them up to do the things that matter most to them.

Sanjay Das: What a great advisor means to me is being a friend to clients.

Nicole Burdick: I like to focus on listening and getting to know what someone wants and building their plan off of that instead of walking into the room saying, “this is what you should do with your life.”

Sanjay Das: I always use this word like collaboration and that's very, very important. So the relationship between the financial advisor and the client should be collaboration, it should be very team oriented.

Shari Miller: Clients come to us for advice, they come to us a lot of times for common sense. Technology and a robo advisor can't tell them when they're making a bad decision or just think through options.

Cynthia Gammon: We educate them but they educate us as well in their lives and their, you know, what they need to achieve. Everybody's idea of success is a little bit different.

Benton Turnage: Clients are looking for more than just investment returns. They're looking for someone to have actual relationship with that's going to truly understand all facets of their financial life. As I look into the future, success to me means continuing to work with partners that I trust and enjoy working with on a daily basis, while continuing to build our client base. While also bringing in that next generation that's not only going to allow us to take a step back, but it's going to bring better ideas and continue to help us grow.

Nicole Burdick: To me being a great advisor is being able to connect well with my clients and do a good job by them and be able to inspire my peers to also be great advisors.

Enzo Pellegrino: It always comes down to taking care of an individual or a family. And whether that's we're helping an advisor retire or we're helping somebody plan for retirement or helping them get their kids to college. At the end of the day, success is looking back and having them go out into their community or spend more time with their loved ones and actually seeing them freed up to do the things that matter most to them.
