LPL Research discusses some under-the-radar ideas to add income to portfolios, including energy and bank stocks. Although not the most typical places to hunt for yield like traditional fixed-income investments and high dividend paying stocks like utilities and real estate, Ryan Detrick and Jeffrey Buchbinder explain that these equities offer attractive yields and are benefiting from some market tailwinds that may enable capital appreciation and solid dividends, without adding unwanted interest rate sensitivity.

Inflation expectations are the highest they’ve been in eight years. In this week’s podcast we take a look at some of the factors driving inflation, why accelerating prices in the near term may not be worrisome, and some forces that may limit the potential for sustained increases in inflation.
Year Of The Ox
The Chinese New Year (often called the Lunar New Year) kicked off Friday, February 12, and with it will begin the Year of the Ox. Although we would never suggest investing based on the zodiac signs—it is important to note that the Year of the Ox has historically been quite strong for equities. In the accompanying chart you can see how stocks have done historically under the 12 Zodiac signs, with the Goat, Tiger, and Ox as the best, while the Rooster and Snake have been the worst. This relationship is random and the sample size is small. Still, here’s hoping that the Year of the Ox plays out well for the bulls once again!
