LPL Financial advisor Michael Gennawey shares how he makes an impact in his clients’ lives

Michael Gennawey, program manager and financial advisor at SoCal Wealth Management, enjoys educating his clients about investment management, expectations, and how financial planning works to help them work toward their financial goals.

“We take a financial planning approach to investment management,” he says. “It helps solidify the relationship with that client so that it doesn't really matter what happens in their life—they want you to be there for them.”

SoCal Wealth Management, which is located at the Credit Union of Southern California, is a full financial planning and wealth management firm.

The firm specializes in retirement planning and focuses on individuals rather than companies or businesses. Michael says, “What we provide at SoCal Wealth Management is a high-end client experience beyond anything else.”

“Technology isn't a just a piece of that pie, it is the pie…It's the reason why we're able to leverage and do as well as we can—by implementing the best technologies that we can find.”

Keeping pace with business growth

Michael’s approach seems to be working well, as SoCal Wealth Management has been growing substantially for more than a decade. As a result, the firm has added advisors and other staff to keep pace with the growth in business it has been receiving.

“Ultimately, we want to make sure we have high service—no matter the size of the institution that we're working with,” Michael says. “What do we need to do to make sure we can scale with that as well? That’s what I think about day to day, in terms of, do we have the right technology and scalability in place to make sure we can do that with high service and a great experience.”

Overcoming challenges using technology

One of the biggest challenges at SoCal Wealth Management is making sure there’s enough communication with their clients.

“As a wealth management firm located within a financial institution, there is a large pool of members tht we can reach out to,” he says. “We need to make sure that we're on the ball and communicating enough. And that's sometimes hard to do with that large of an audience.”

“Technology isn't a just a piece of that pie, it is the pie,” he adds.  “It's the reason why we're able to leverage and do as well as we can—by implementing the best technologies that we can find.”

The marriage of service and experience in technology is one of the reasons Michael and his team love their relationship with LPL. Among the tools they use often include Account View 2.0, the Enhanced Trading and Rebalancing platform, the Call Me feature, Marketing On Demand, and of course, ClientWorks, which helps the team with practice management.

Helping the community and making an impact

“What I love most about being a financial advisor is making an impact,” Michael says. “Making an impact for someone who might have a lot of other things going on in their life…this is just one of those stressors that maybe I can relieve for them.”

Michael also enjoys helping his community with the work he does.

“It's just very satisfying to know that I'm doing something to help my community,” he says. “Our ability to get in front of the community and help them with their finances, and that's the best thing for us.”
