LEED Gold LPL Financial

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – May 30, 2017 – Leading retail investment advisory firm and independent broker/dealer LPL Financial LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of LPL Financial Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: LPLA), today announced that the firm’s Carolinas campus has earned LEED® Gold certification for its innovation in sustainable design strategies.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for recognizing best-in-class building strategies and practices in green building. LEED Gold certification reflects the effective use of green building strategies, practices and materials in creating LPL’s 27-acre campus.

“We set out to build an extraordinary workplace that would enhance the lives of our employees and demonstrate LPL’s commitment to sustainability,” said LPL Chief Human Capital Officer Sallie Larsen. “With a design inspired by nature and innovation, we now have a workplace that protects resources, creates pride for our employees and our community and inspires our teams to do great work for our clients.”

Highlights from LPL’s LEED scorecard include perfect or near-perfect scores in water efficiency, innovation and design processes, and indoor environmental quality categories.

The campus was completed in 2016 and features 450,000-square-feet of office space in two buildings. The offices showcase unique features intended to protect resources and promote employee wellbeing, including:

  • Abundant natural light—The buildings are illuminated by abundant natural light, which creates a pleasant work environment, reduces lighting-related energy consumption and offers employees an outdoor view from nearly every workstation.
  • Net-zero water usage—Water-efficient systems used throughout the campus recycle and redirect water, minimizing consumption of non-potable water and slowing water entering the local storm water system.
  • Environmentally conscious landscaping and exterior design—Construction strategies spared as many trees as possible and used reclaimed hardwoods for building construction. The smart use of exterior design materials also reduces heat islands and energy consumption.

LPL’s Carolinas campus also includes many other amenities designed to improve employee health and encourage greater physical movement, including sit-to-stand adjustable workstations, a fitness center, a health clinic, two miles of on-campus walking trails, a community garden, outdoor sports courts, a game room, bicycle storage and a bicycle share program. The adjacent garage offers 12 electric vehicle charging stations and 100 preferred parking spaces for fuel-efficient vehicles.

LPL’s real estate portfolio is also comprised of its San Diego tower, a 13-story office that was completed in 2014. The building is LEED Platinum certified.

LPL currently employs over 1,600 employees in Fort Mill, S.C., and more than 3,300 in total.
